Farwell4Hire Returns To Heffner’s
May is the month he’s looking for work.
Mike Farwell, a talk show host on 570 News Kitchener, is the man behind #Farwell4Hire; a local campaign that raises funds and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
Having two sisters who passed away from this horrible genetic disease, Farwell is dedicated to helping find a cure for CF, but he can’t do it alone. And so you have #Farwell4Hire.
A local campaign where anyone, residents or businesses, have the opportunity to hire Farwell to do a job, and instead of paying him for his time and effort, you make a donation towards the cause.
Over the first 5 years, the campaign has raised over $300,000. This year, he hopes to keep the momentum going setting a lofty goal of $150,000.
Heffner’s is once again proud to hire Farwell on Friday, May 10th to the Auto Cleaning and Detailing Centre. But this year there’s a twist; we’re giving you an opportunity to ‘participate’ as well.
On top of the Heffner donation to hire Farwell, we’re currently auctioning off a Detailing Gold Package (valued up to $299) to the highest bidder. Mike Farwell will then join the team to clean your vehicle.
Gold Package includes:
• Hand wash
• Shampoo all seats/carpets
• Detail interior including dash, console, vents, and cup holders
• Clean interior/exterior windows
• Vacuum trunk
• Inspect vehicle for scratches, swirl marks, and contamination
• Remove contamination with Clay Bar
• Remove minor scratches and paint imperfections up to 80%
• Polish to restore original shine
• Apply paint sealant
If you’re interested, please make your blind bid through email to Ryan Dentinger (email@example.com) by Friday, May 3rd at 12 noon. The highest amount received by the deadline will win the package.
Waterloo Region has always been known for its utmost generosity. Here’s another chance to once again prove what we already know.
Together, we can help make CF history.
2019 Lexus LC 500 Inspiration Series
To call it a rare find is an understatement.
The 2019 Lexus LC 500 Inspiration Series can be found in the Heffner Lexus showroom. It’s as rare as it is amazing too, as there are only 12 models available in Canada. Yes. 12. That’s it for the entire country.
The 2019 Lexus LC 500 is the second vehicle to receive the Inspiration Series treatment in Canada. The first being the 2019 Lexus LX 570.
The LC combines a distinctive mix of colours and features that build on this prestige coupe’s magnificent design. The exterior body is finished in vibrant Flare Yellow paint and rides on 21-inch wheels. The carbon fiber roof and lower grille insert makes for the right amount of contrast.
Not to be outdone, the interior of the LC 500 Inspiration Series also receives special attention. Bespoke yellow door inserts connect the exterior to the cabin, while the touring seats feature white semi-aniline leather with yellow stitching. That same stitching is also used on the instrument panel, console and glove box to give the entire cabin a distinctive look.
If you haven’t had the chance to see the LC 500 Inspiration Series in person yet, we recommend doing it sooner rather than later, as it’s only here until the Sold Sign goes up.
Crabcakes by Little Mushroom Catering
If you were at this year’s Heffner Spring Show you would have seen Chef Jason from Little Mushroom Catering create delicious Fennel Crabcake up on stage during one of the many expert talks.
And if you were like myself, you didn’t have a pen to quickly scribble down the ingredients and the how-to or had enough space on your phone to record the entire presentation. Troublesome, I know.
But don’t worry, Little Mushroom Catering were more than happy to share again.
So, without further delay…
Little Mushroom Catering Fennel Crabcake
Yield: 2 dozen hors d’oeuvres size, or 8 large
1 lb cooked crab meat
1/3 red onion, fine dice
1/3 head fennel, tops removed and fine dice
2 cloves garlic, fine dice
3 Tbsp grainy Dijon mustard
2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
2 Tbsp Hot Sauce
4 Tbsp Mayonnaise
1 Whole Egg
5-10 Tbsp Panko Bread Crumbs, plus more to coat
Salt and Pepper to taste
Drain the crab meat of as much liquid as possible, by pressing it with your hands or into a strainer over a bowl.
In a bowl, with your hands or a wooden spoon, mix together all ingredients other than the bread crumbs until thoroughly combined.
Add the bread crumbs 2-3 Tbsp at a time and mix thoroughly between each addition. You want the mixture to stick to itself while being able to hold its own shape. If you think you’re getting close, let it sit for 1 minute to let the bread crumb absorb some liquid and then check it again. If it’s too crumbly, add more mayonnaise. If it’s too soft, add more bread crumb.
Check for seasoning, add more salt or pepper if desired.
With a scoop or your hands, form the mixture into a “puck-like” shape. The serving size can vary, but you want to make sure they are no more than 1″ thick.
Put some bread crumbs in another bowl. One at a time, toss your crab cakes in the bread crumbs until they are evenly coated, and set aside.
Heat 1/4″ of oil in a pan over a medium-high heat. Do not let your oil smoke. Fry each side of your crab cakes until golden. Be sure not to over-crowd your pan.
Serve with remoulade, spicy mayonnaise, tartar sauce, lemon juice and fresh herbs, or hot sauce.
There you have it, delicious Fennel Crabcake from Little Mushroom Catering.

Spring Cleaning Tips & Tricks
As much as we always look forward to the arrival of spring, we also equally don’t look forward to the idea of all the cleaning that comes with it.
The best way to look at it though is the good always outweighs the bad, plus when the cleaning is done, you feel amazing.
Point of focus for spring cleaning often is on our homes, after all, it is your biggest investment, but you can’t forget about your vehicle either.
It’s so important to rid it of the nasty salt and grime that builds up over the long and hard winter months. Not only to maintain your vehicle’s appearance but its potential resale value as well. Plus, salt can damage the wires underneath your carpet, including if your vehicle has a floor gas tank release. Often, you’ll find the release beginning to seize due to the salt corrosion.
Here’s a couple easy but essential Spring Vehicle Cleaning Tips from the Heffner Auto Cleaning and Detailing Centre.
1. Replace the inserts on your windshield wipers. The cold weather can be harsh, typically taking its toll on the rubber which can lead to streaks and eventual damage to your windshield if not replaced. It’s easy to do, and even easier to purchase at our Heffner Motors Parts Department. Any questions, feel free to ask.
2. Freshen Up. No one likes to get into a vehicle that has a little funk to it. To rid your ride of stale odours from the ventilation ducts, try spraying odours eliminator into the system’s air intake. Hint – it’s usually located at the base of the windshield. Once you’ve sprayed, make sure to run the air conditioner full blast for at least 10 minutes to let the eliminator work its magic.
3. Never use dish soap for washing a car. This question was asked at our last Heffner Toyota Guest Information Night on April 8th. Many chemicals in today’s soaps are not for your car. Dish soap is designed to cut grease; you know, “soft on your hands, hard on grease.” That also makes it extremely hard on your vehicle’s wax, often stripping it or making it blotchy. Instead, always use quality soap designed and intended for vehicles to keep the shine lasting long and strong. Heffner’s Detailing Department has a wide array of products that work exceptionally well. If you’re unsure of what one is right for your vehicle, again, feel free to ask. We’d be happy to help.
If you still don’t want to or don’t have time to do your vehicle spring cleaning, not a problem. Don’t. Heffner’s can do the work for you! We have an excellent in-house Detailing Department filled with experts in both interior and exterior detailing. Any make, any model, we can have it ready for the summer road ahead.
2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid
The first ever Toyota Corolla Hybrid will arrive at Heffner Toyota any day now.
It’s hard to believe that one of the most fuel-efficient models in our Toyota lineup has gotten even better. But, that’s exactly what’s happened.
Now you get all the reliability of Corolla in a fun-to-drive Self-Charging Hybrid delivering a 4.5L/100km fuel efficiency rating. It recharges on the go, so you never have to worry about finding a station to plug-in. And like other Toyota hybrids, the Corolla uses regenerative braking to capture and transform energy into electricity and store it in the battery for future use.
With Corolla Hybrid, you sure don’t lose out on performance either. Toyota’s newest hybrid delivers instant torque from its electric motor and 121 horsepower overall.
When it comes to the maintenance schedule, it’s virtually the same as the Corolla gas powered vehicles. Features with Hybrid engineering help to reduce wear and tear preventing extra visits to Service.
And as always, Corolla puts safety first with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0. This includes all your favourites like Pre-Collison System with Daytime/Low-Light Vehicle and Pedestrian Detection, plus Daytime Bicycle Detection. Also Lane Tracing Assist (Automatic Transmission only), Automatic High Beams and Available Full Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Blind Spot Monitor is also available.
That’s a quick snapshot of the new, exciting 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid; a first of its kind. For more information, don’t hesitate to contact a Product Advisor here at Heffner Toyota. With Corolla Hybrid, you get a spirited drive, both in the city and on the highway.
